Terrier Baseball Stumbles at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Terrier baseball team continued North Coast Athletic Conference action on Friday evening, falling twice to Denison University.

The Big Red bats were going early and often in both sides of the doubleheader as the hosts ran out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings of game one. Thanks to the early lead, Denison captured the first half of the twin bill, 13-1.

The lone Terrier run in the game came in the top of the sixth as Tyler Carcioppolo led off the inning with a double. He was chased home two batters later on a RBI single by Vince Suso.

Suso was one of five players with a hit for Hiram in game one. The other four included Carcioppolo, Zachary Bailey, Tyler Duben, and Vince Lonigro.

The offense was a bit better for Hiram in game two, but once again the Big Red sprinted out of the gate with nine runs in the first three innings.

Hiram scored one run early, getting a RBI single by Tyler Haas in the top of the second, but did not cross the plate again until the fifth.

Alex Gould produced a RBI hit in the fifth while Luke Brown and Hass tallied RBI doubles in the sixth. That, however, would be the extent of the offense, and Denison took game two, 16-4.

Brown led the offense in game two, producing his first-career three-hit day, while Haas tallied a multi-RBI performance for the first time in his tenure as a Terrier. Sophomore Will Howell also produced a pair of hits in the outing.

Hiram will be back in action on Tuesday, April 17, as the Terriers are scheduled to travel to Meadville, Pa. for a NCAC matchup with Allegheny. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
