Feb.12-CLEVELAND, Ohio - Hiram men's basketball senior, Kelvin Jones, has earned North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, after helping lift the Terriers to back-to-back victories over Ohio Wesleyan (72-66) and #3 Wittenberg (94-71).
After securing the two conference wins, the Terriers are now 14-9 overall and 10-6 in conference play.
Over the course of the week, Jones averaged a double-double, scoring 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per night, while shooting 16-of-19 from the field (.842).
In the first matchup, Jones helped the Terriers sweep the Battling Bishops for the first time since joining the NCAC in 2000. He helped carry the offensive load, contributing 10 points and 13 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season.
Jones followed his performance with a team-best offensive effort in helping the Terriers hand Wittenberg their first loss of the season, Saturday afternoon. He finished the game with a 25 points, matching his season high. With his point total, Jones secured the number 12 spot on Hiram's all-time scoring list (1,242), previously held by the legendary Bill Meyer. He also shot 11-of-13 from the field and tallied eight rebounds.
The Sheffield Lake native is the only player in the conference averaging a double-double (15.7 points/10.3 rebounds) and is shooting over 60% from the field. He also is the conference leader in rebounds per game (10.3) and comes in second in field goal percentage (62.7).
Jones and the Terriers will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 14 as they host Denison University. The matchup is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start.
