April 22 - MEADVILLE, Pa. - Paced by junior Michael Schustrich, the Hiram men's golf team competed in the opening round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by the Country Club of Meadville, on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers currently sit in ninth place with a team score of 366 on the 6,687-yard course. Schustrich finished day one in 39th place, with James Workman (41st), Ryan Paterak (42nd), Evan Dalziel (44th) and Brett Fisher (45th) rounding out the competitors for Hiram.
Starting on hole #10, Schustrich started his first round out strong, paring seven of his first nine holes. He finished with 12 pars on the day, shooting an 86.
Workman tallied 45s on both the front and back nine, finishing with a total round score of 90. He tallied six pars on the day, including three on both halves of the course.
The team lead following the first day of competition belongs to Wittenberg University, who posted a team score of 294 on the day. The Tigers put four players in the top 10, including individual leader Sam Stillwell, who finished the round with a -4 (68).
Round two at the Country Club of Meadville is scheduled for Sunday morning with the men set to tee off at 9:30 a.m.
