Men's Lacrosse Loses to Kenyon
GAMBIER, OHIO -- The Hiram College men's lacrosse team lost to Kenyon College, 19-4, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Gambier.
Kenyon (8-5, 3-2 NCAC) took control of the game early with 13 unanswered goals over the course of the first half and into the start of the third quarter. The Lords tallied seven goals in the first quarter and then added five more scores in the second to lead 12-0 at the break.
In the third quarter, Kenyon padded its lead with a goal at the 13:22 minute mark before Hiram (2-9, 0-5 NCAC) ended the shutout with a goal by sophomore John Deegan (Lakewood/St. Edward) on a man-up advantage with an assist from fellow sophomore Chris Lekan (North Olmsted/Holy Name). Following another goal by the Lords, freshman Douglas Legris (Fairfax, Verm./Bellows Free Academy) found the back of the net for the Terriers with 3:18 left in the period to make the score 14-2. Kenyon tallied the final two goals of the frame, including a score with just three seconds to go to extend the margin to 16-2 heading into the final 15 minutes.
Hiram scored twice in the fourth quarter with both scores coming from junior Aaron Hare (Rocky River), but Kenyon posted three goals of its own to cruise to the 19-4 victory. Both Hiram goals scored by Hare were assisted by Lekan, his second and third helpers of the game.
Lekan was the top point scorer for the Terriers with his three assists. Hare was second with two goals, Deegan and Legris rounded out the scorers with a goal each.
In net, sophomore Sawyer Lott (Sunbury/Big Walnut) played the entire game and recorded 16 saves. He is now 2-9 overall for the season with the loss.
Hiram will play its final two games of the season at home beginning with a NCAC matchup against Oberlin College on Wednesday, Apr. 16 at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
