HIRAM, Ohio -- Senior Danny Essel (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) won the 100-meter breaststroke to lead the Hiram College men's swimming & diving team in a 140-67 loss to NCAC foe Oberlin on Friday.
The Terriers are now 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference action, while the Yeoman stand at 2-0, 1-0.
Essel touched first in the backstroke in 1:14.10. He also teamed with junior Jamal Hill (Inglewood, Calif./Junipero Serra), freshman Reeve Bowling (Minneapolis, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) and freshman Jacob Crowl (Fontana, Calif./Etiwanda) to win the 200-meter medley relay in 2:00.68.
Bowling also was second in the 100-meter freestyle in 59.29 and third in the 50-meter freestyle in 26.88 seconds.
Crowl touched second in the 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter freestyle in 1:11.72 and 2:15.22, respectively.
Junior Jordan Canevari (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edward's) also recorded a second place finish, touching in 4:58.94 in the 400-meter freestyle.
Sophomore Julian Gilbert (University Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) finished third in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:19.42 and Hill was third in the 100-meter freeestyle with a time of 1:01.46.
Hiram will be back at it on November 6 as they host Division II foe Malone at 6 p.m.
