Terrier Swimming & Diving Competes in Final Day of Wooster Invite

Dec. 2 - WOOSTER, Ohio - Led by a pair of finals appearances, the Hiram College swimming & diving teams competed in the final day of the Wooster Invitational, hosted by The College of Wooster on Saturday. 

On the men's side, freshman Darien Street led the way for the Terriers, placing 24th in the prelims of the 200 butterfly, posting a mark of 2:17.26. He then followed that with a 2:15.48 in the final, good for 23rd. 

For the women, sophomore Jenna Nelson paced Hiram, swimming her way into the finals of the 200 breaststroke (2:38.64). She swam nearly identically in the final, shaving .02 off her time while once again coming in 19th. 

Additionally, Nelson finished 23rd in the 1650 freestyle, posting a time of 19:34.00, which was 35 seconds faster than her seed time. 

Other leaders for the Terrier men included Brady Gunther and Jordan Canevari. Gunther tallied a 26th-place mark in the 200 backstroke (2:04.03), while Canevari finished 26th in the 200 fly with a 2:22.67. 

Along with his performance in the 200 fly, Canevari tallied an 18th place mark in the 1650 (18:30.76). Michael Barber also competed in the distance swim, coming in 20th with a time of 18:43.29. 

For the women, Sierra Daniels performed well in the 100 freestyle, shaving six seconds off her seed time with a 1:03.70. 

The Terrier swimming & diving team has completed their competition schedule for the 2017 calendar year, and will next be in action on January 19 as they travel to Bethany, W. Va. for a dual meet with the Bison. The meet is scheduled for 6 p.m.
