HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College men's volleyball team closed out play at their home invitational, dropping a pair of matches to Juniata and Adrian on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers first fell by a 3-0 score to the Eagles of Juniata College, before dropping a 3-1 decision to the Bulldogs in the night cap.
In the first game, Hiram dropped a straight-set decision to Juniata, falling by set scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-14.
After falling 3-0, the Terriers came out on a mission against Adrian, storming out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-17 victory in the first set.
Trailing by two (10-8) in the mid stages of the first set, Hiram responded, going on a 10-4 run to push ahead by four (18-14) and force an Adrian timeout.
The Terriers' two leading kill performers, Fischer and Andrzejewski each tallied three in the run. Fischer finished the first set with seven total kills.
Still leading by four with the set winding down, Hiram tallied the last four points of the set to post the 25-17 set victory. Fischer tallied his seventh kill before Jake Lininger posted a service ace. Freshman Cole Filer then finished the set with a solo block to give the Terriers the set advantage.
From there, however, the Bulldogs would storm back, taking set two 25-14 before capturing sets three and four by scores of 25-13 and 25-14.
Fischer hit .354 in the matchup, finishing with 13 kills and just one attack error in 33 attempts. Andrzejewski tallied 12, while Justin English chipped in with four. Lininger added 30 assists, while Fischer led the team in digs (10), posting his fourth double-double.
The Terriers will put the wraps on their inaugural season on Saturday, April 7, as they play host to Olivet.
