GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Hiram College women's basketball team fell to Denison in its regular season finale by a 63-46 score on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers conclude the season with a 12-13 overall record and a 6-10 mark in the NCAC. The Big Red improve 21-3 and clinch the NCAC regular season title outright with a 14-1 record.
Sophomore Allison Vannoy (Mantua, Ohio/Crestwood) had 12 points, seven assists and three steals to lead Hiram.
Sophomore Mercedes Jones (Dayton, Ohio/Ponitz Career Technology Center) also finished with 12 points.
Denison jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and used a 9-0 run late in the first quarter to build a 20-7 advantage after the first quarter.
The Big Red opened the second stanza with 10 straight points to build a 30-7 edge. Denison held a 37-13 lead heading into the intermission.
The Terriers would pull to within 14 points in the fourth quarter, but were unable to draw any closer.
In the second half, Hiram was able to outscore Denison 33-26.
The Terriers were 19-of-56 (33.9 percent) from the field, while the Big Red were a sizzling 25-of-41 (61.0 percent).
The Big Red outrebounded Hiram 31-25 and also outscored the Terriers 34-22 in the paint.
Jordan Holmes paced Denison with 25, on a perfect 10-of-10 shooting, and 14 rebounds.
Hiram will play next in the NCAC Tournament on Tuesday. The date and opponent will be announced by the conference on Sunday.
