Women's Basketball Gears Up for 2017-2018 Campaign

Nov. 9 – HIRAM, Ohio- The Hiram women's basketball team will look to top the new program standard they set after their successful 2016-2017 season.

Alex Dellas will make her stamp on the program as she enters her first season as the head coach. The last time she stepped on William H. Hollinger court, it was as a member of the Hiram College women's basketball team. Dellas will continue the upward trajectory of the Terrier women's basketball program that saw new highs last year in both total wins (17) and North Coast Athletic Conference victories (nine).

Hiram will return nine players and a trio of starters to the floor, including seniors Kaylee ShockleyKayla Yost, and Allison Vannoy. Shockley the two-time All-NCAC Honorable Mention honoree posted one of the best all-around seasons of anyone in the conference. Last season she averaged 10 points per game while leading the entire NCAC with 2.5 steals per night, she was the only player in the conference to rank top 20 in scoring, rebounding, assist, steals and blocked shots.

Yost will return to the floor for another season after averaging seven rebounds a night, totaling 9.7 points per game, and broke double-digit points, 13 times on the season.

The Terriers will lean on Vannoy to be a major contributor in assist, and look to her for her dominance from the free throw line. Vannoy ranked second in the conference in both total assist (81) and assist per contest (3.1), with a career-high of 80% from the free throw line.

Along with three returning starters, senior Jazmine Scott will be looking to step out of the reserve role as she enters her second season with the Terriers. She was a great new addition averaging 3.8 points and 1.6 rebounds per game while shooting .452 from the field.

Junior Erica Johnson made an appearance in all 26 games last season, ranking fourth on the team in rebounds per game (4.3).

Hiram will count on sophomore Sarah Spehn to step up to fill the center role as she averaged 8.3 minutes in her freshman season.

The returning Terrier group also includes Bri Burgos, Brianna Kirk, and Tayler Hall.

Hiram will also be adding seven fresh faces this year. The 2017-2018 roster will now feature freshman Alainna Conroy, Samantha VanScoyMicKayla BaldwinTashauna Wright, Madison Branch, Amanda Holzman, and He'Quia Horner.

The Terriers will kick off their 2017-18 season on Saturday, November 11, as they travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Mount St. Joseph University in the third annual Lauren Hill Tip-Off Classic, hosted by Xavier University.

Hiram will play their first home game on Wednesday, November 15, when they host Grove City College in non-conference action. They will then open NCAC play as they travel to Oberlin College.
