NEW CASTLE, PA. -- The Hiram College women's golf team placed fourth of six teams at the one-day Westminster (Pa.) College Spring Invitational at the New Castle Country Club in New Castle, Pa.
Hiram finished the 18-hole tournament with a team-total of 397 strokes to place fourth overall. Grove City (Pa.) College captured the team title in a playoff with 387 strokes. Point Park (Pa.) University ended up in second place also shooting a 387. Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College rounded out the top-three schools with 390 strokes.
Hiram was led by sophomore Jenelle Bayus (Cortland/Lakeview) with 96 strokes (48+48=96) and placed eighth overall individually. Fellow sophomore Megan Jennings (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) was second at 99 strokes (52+47=99) and sophomore Alexa Griswold (Conneaut) placed third on the team with an even 100 strokes (52+48=100). Freshman Brogan Petree (Minerva) carded a single-round 102 strokes (51+51=102) and senior Carrie Dyer was fifth with 113 strokes (58+55=113).
Hiram will next compete in the first of two North Coast Athletic Conference Championship Events with the DePauw (Ind.) University Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, Apr. 26-27. The event will be held at the Twin Bridges Golf Course in Danville, Ind.
