HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team was defeated by the University of Mount Union, 23-2, in a non-conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
Mount Union (1-1) scored early in the first half with its first goal coming at the 29:42 minute mark to take the 1-0 lead. The Purple Raiders added seven more scores before Hiram (1-2) got on the board with 16:03 left before halftime with a goal by sophomore JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc), but the Terriers would still trail, 8-1. Mount Union answered the Grover goal by finding the back of the net 10 more times to extend the margin to 18-1. Hiram ended the scoring in the first period when sophomore Hannah Schaefer (Kent/Roosevelt) tallied a goal with 11 seconds remaining as Hiram trailed 18-2 at the break.
In the second half, Mount Union padded its lead with five scores and held the Terriers scoreless in the final 30 minutes as the Purple Raiders cruised to the 23-2 final.
Sophomore Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) started the game and played all 60 minutes. She ended the game with five saves and is now 1-2 overall for the season with the loss.
Hiram is scheduled to travel to Greenville, Pa. for a non-conference game against Thiel (Pa.) College on Tuesday, Mar. 18. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
