HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team was defeated by Ohio Wesleyan University, 16-4, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
In the first half, OWU (7-7, 2-4 NCAC) began the game with eight straight goals to take an 8-0 advantage. Hiram (3-10, 0-5 NCAC) netted its first goal with 13:22 left in the period when sophomore Hannah Schaefer (Kent/Roosevelt) scored on a free-position shot to make it an 8-1 game. The Battling Bishops answered the Terrier score shortly after, but sophomore JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) tallied the second goal of the game for Hiram, also on a free-position shot, to make the score, 9-2, at the 9:36 minute mark. OWU scored four more times to round out the scoring in the opening half to increase the deficit to 13-2 heading into the locker rooms.
Hiram recorded the first goal of the second half on an unassisted goal by freshman Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, Verm./Lamoille Union) with 26:05 to go in the game to narrow the gap to 13-3. The Bishops responded with a pair of goals before junior Morgan Rahman (Westlake/St. Joseph Academy) scored the final goal for the Terriers at the 17:38 mark, with a helper from Osgood, but Hiram would still trail 15-4. OWU would tack on a final goal before the end of the game and went on to post the 16-4 victory.
Osgood was the leading point-scorer for Hiram with two points thanks to her goal and assist. Grover, Schaefer and Rahman each finished the game with a point with a goal scored.
In net, sophomore Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) started the game and played the entire first half making five saves. Junior Jocelyn Schmidt (Kent/Roosevelt) played the final 30 minutes at goalkeeper and recorded three saves.
Hiram will host Oberlin College in a NCAC game on Saturday, Apr. 19 at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
