VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Despite four goals from senior Alyse Gillentine, the Hiram College women's lacrosse team dropped a decision to Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers finished their spring break trip 1-1 after posting a blowout win over North Carolina Wesleyan on Monday.
Hiram fell behind 7-0 out of the gate and never recovered. The Terriers trailed 13-3 at the break, with all three markers coming from Gillentine. The senior also added one more in the second half, rounding out the scoring for Hiram.
Gillentine tied her career high in goals despite taking just five shots. All four of her shots that she placed on net found their way past the goalkeeper.
The performance for the senior marked her fifth hat-trick of her career, and third time she has posted at least four. This season has been her best in the early portion, as she has tallied four multi-goal performances in her first five outings. She now has 14 markers on the season.
Defensively, goalie Rachel Metcalf tallied 11 saves, while Gillentine led the way with a pair of caused turnovers.
Currently 3-2 on the year, Hiram will be back in action on Wednesday, March 14, as the Terriers host Wilmington College. The matchup is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
