Oct. 9 – CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the first time in her two-year career, Hiram College women's soccer sophomore goalie, Ally Green, has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced the NCAC on Monday afternoon.
Green was selected as the player of the week in the conference after helping the Terriers to a victory over Oberlin College for the first time since 2013.
The sophomore goalie posted a clean sheet, despite Oberlin posting 26 shots on the game. Green made 14 saves against the Yeowomen, who came into the contest as the number one ranked scoring offense in the NCAC.
Green tallied six, first-half, saves to keep the matchup scoreless through the first 45 minutes, despite the Terriers being outshot 11-3.
Following the Terriers' go-ahead goal, the sophomore tallied eight more saves in the second half, including a pair on breakaway attempts over the final twenty minutes to lift Hiram to the conference victory, and even their NCAC record to 1-1.
Green's 14 saves marked the most of her young career, besting her previous high of 13, which she tallied earlier in the season against then #22 Otterbein.
The shutout was the second of the year for Green, who also posted a clean sheet with seven saves in a double-overtime draw with Marietta College on Sept. 12.
So far on the season, Green has turned into one of the top goal keepers in the NCAC, ranking first in the conference in saves per game (7.71), while sitting second in both total saves (54) and save percentage (.857).
"I couldn't be prouder of the way that Ally continues to develop her game," remarked head coach Mike Cracas. "In that win on Saturday, she proved how vital she can be to our efforts. If she can continue to play like that, she will give us a chance to win on a nightly basis."
Green's NCAC Player of the Week award marked the first of her young career. She also becomes the second Hiram fall athlete to earn a weekly award, joining Terrier football's Randy Tucker in week two of the season.
Green and the rest of the Terriers will be back in action on Tuesday, October 10, as they travel to Meadville, Pa. to take on the Gators of Allegheny. The matchup is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
