Swimming and Diving Competes in Senior Day Tri-Meet

HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell short in their final home meet of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The men's team faced Washington & Jefferson, whereas the women faced both Washington & Jefferson and Franciscan.

The Terrier men were led by Michael Barber. The sophomore earned top points in both the 1500 freestyle and the 400 freestyle with times of 20:18.70 and 5:10.22. Junior Jory Gomes also grabbed top points in the 50 backstroke, recording a time of 36.74.

Despite these strong performances, the men's team was defeated by a final score of 79-67.

Jenna Nelson was the top performer for the women, capturing two individual victories over the course of the meet. She placed first in both the 1500 freestyle (20:07.83) and the 100 breaststroke (1:24.89).

 Senior Meredith Fitschen-Brown also added to the cause, earning top marks in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:12.11.

The women's team finished the day dropping the meet to both Washington & Jefferson and Franciscan by final scores of 98-35 and 78-45.   

Prior to the meet, both Fitschen-Brown and Emily Kelly were recognized as part of senior day festivities.

Both Terrier teams will next travel to Wittenberg on January 28 to compete in their final conference meet before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. The first event is scheduled for 1 p.m.
