March 8 – INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Hiram College Athletics Department, and the College's office of Diversity and Inclusion, have been recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as the recipients of the February Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative Award.
The NCAA Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative recognizes and promotes outstanding diversity related projects, programming and initiatives that are occurring on Division III campuses and in conference offices. Each month, the award recognizes an institution or conference in regard to a diversity related event, program or initiative.
The Terriers were recognized with the award for their efforts on the program, "Coming Together: A Community Dialog About Race" which was held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the Hiram College dining hall.
The event, which was attended by nearly 300 members of the Hiram community, was designed to facilitate an open dialogue in "round-table" discussion format on race and equality topics that are currently at the forefront of today's society.
In recognition of the efforts made by the entire Hiram community, the campus will receive $500 dollars from the NCAA to put towards its next diversity initiative.
