Mike Skizenta Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

It has recently been announced, that Hiram football senior captain, Mike Skizenta, has been selected to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.

The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is now is its 12th year, and is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.  A total of 1,252 players from 303 schools qualified for membership, setting a new record for the number of players honored in the history of the program, which began in 2007.

Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft) at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university, achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study and meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

Throughout his four-year career, Skizenta was a mainstay on the Terrier offense, playing in 37 of a possible 40 games. Serving as both a blocking and receiving tight end, the Bedford, Ohio native tallied 10 catches for 113 yards and a trio of touchdowns.

Serving as a captain during his senior year, Skizenta helped bolster the offense line, lifting the Terriers to new program records in total yards (4,178) and yards per game (417.8). With his help, Hiram totaled 238.9 passing yards per game and ran for another 178.9 per night.

When he wasn't running routes, Skizenta also helped pave the way for First-Team All-Conference rusher, Danny Robinson, who broke the single-season Terrier rushing record with 1,084 yards. He also served as the long snapper on special teams throughout the year.

In the classroom, Skizenta sported a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in communications. He is also a member of the Lambda Pi Eta honorary fraternity.

Skizenta is the fourth Terrier over the last three seasons to garner Hampshire Honor Society distinction.
