HIRAM, OHIO -- Senior men's basketball player Jamaal Watkins (South Euclid/Brush) will be taking part in the fourth annual Jump25.com/Ohio College All-Star Classic that will be held on Saturday, Apr. 14 at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus.
Individually, Watkins led the team and was second in the NCAC in scoring average at 20.1 points per game. His 20.1 ppg. scoring average puts him in a tie for eighth all-time in program history in a single-season and his 522 points this year ranks fifth best in a single-season. He shot a team-best 56.0 percent (223-of-398) from the floor and had the fourth-best shooting percentage in the NCAC. In addition, Watkins led the team in free-throws made (75), free-throws attempted (107), blocked shots (20) and steals (30). He averaged a career-high 7.5 rebounds per game, which ranked second on the team and was also amongst the league leaders, and had a single-season high 58 assists.
Following the 2011-12 season, Watkins was named first-team NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) All-District, second-team D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region and first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference. He is just the second Terrier to garner first-team All-NCAC honors since Hiram joined the conference.
For his career, Watkins played in 94 games primarily as a bench player before becoming a starter this past season. He ends his career with 848 points while shooting an impressive 55.9 percent from the floor in four seasons. His shooting percentage is the third-best all-time in program history. Watkins also recorded 411 career rebounds (4.4 rpg.) to go along with 79 assists, 70 steals and 38 blocked shots.
The Jump25.com men's all-star game is set to begin at 5 p.m. at Ohio Dominican's Alumni Hall Gymnasium. The college games include student-athletes from around the state of Ohio.
