Dec. 12 – CLEVELAND, Ohio – After leading the Hiram College men's basketball team to a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference victories, junior Paul Ortiz has been honored as the NCAC's Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday.
Ortiz posted his first two 20-point performances of the season as the Terriers opened conference play with victories over #17 Wooster and Allegheny. In the win over the Scots, who were ranked in the top-25 by D3Hoops.com, Ortiz posted a season high, dropping 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting.
The junior guard continued his solid play when the Terriers traveled to Allegheny on Saturday afternoon. He once again led the team in scoring, knocking down six triples en route to 24 points.
Ortiz was on fire throughout the week, hitting on 18-of-31 shots, including 10-of-15 from beyond the arc. He shot .580 in the two games, averaging 25.5 points while also adding three steals per night.
Over the Terriers' past four games, Ortiz has been improving on his consistency, scoring in double figures in all four outings. In that stretch, he has knocked down 15 triples and is averaging 20.5 points per night.
Ortiz and the Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, December 17, when they travel to Wabash. Tip off against the Little Giants is scheduled for 7 p.m.
