Hiram Men's Basketball Earns NABC DIII Team of the Week Honors
Jan.16- The Hiram College men's basketball team has been named the Division III Team of the Week by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), after back to back victories against Ohio Wesleyan (88-79) and Kenyon (99-77).
Teams up for NABC Team of the Week honors were nominated by their respective conferences, before being voted on by the NABC leadership. Only one team is selected per week from each of five levels of collegiate basketball (Division I, II, III, NAIA, and Junior College). This week, Hiram joins The University of Oklahoma (DI), The University of Wisconsin-Parkside (DII), Wayland Baptist University (NAIA) and Kirkwood Community College (NJCAA).
The Terriers 2-0 conference record last week brings them to 10-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Hiram is currently tied with No. 24 Ohio Wesleyan for second place in the North Coast Athletic Conference standings.
Last week, Hiram scored the final 10 points of the game against Ohio Wesleyan to collect the nine-point win, while the 99 points against the Lords was the most points scored against a conference opponent since scoring 120 against Denison in 2007. The Terriers were paced by Senior Kelvin Jones who posted his eighth and ninth double-doubles of the year while shooting over 70 percent from the field. He recorded 21 points and 14 rebounds against Ohio Wesleyan, before registering 19 points and 10 boards against Kenyon.  For his efforts, Jones was named the NCAC Player of the Week.
Currently, the Terriers have won eight of their previous nine outings. Hiram leads the conference in blocked shots per game, averaging 5.1 and currently ranks second in steals per contest (7.5). Their 79.1 points per night currently ranks third in the league, while they also sit third in scoring margin.
Hiram will be back in action on Wednesday, January 17, as they travel to Granville, Ohio to take on the Big Red of Denison University. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
