Dec.20- GREENCASTLE, IN – The Hiram men's basketball team upended DePauw University 81-66 on Thursday evening.
The Hiram victory pushed their conference record to 3-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Tigers fell to 1-3.
The Terriers shot 12-24 beyond the arc, also dominating in the paint holding a 20-18 advantage, while adding 34 rebounds, and forcing 14 turnovers.
Sophomore Jalen Kirksey led the offensive attack with a career-high 23 points.
Three other Terriers scored in double figures with junior Austin Blatt playing a career-best game with 17 points and six rebounds.
Junior Sherman Dean III added 14 points and six rebounds, while lone senior Marcel Rice tallied his second double-double (13 points and 10 rebounds) of the season.
The Terriers were the first to get on the board with Kirksey knocking down a three in the opening minute of play.
Hiram never trailed in the game, leading by nine (28-19), ten minutes into the contest. Kirksey was a vital piece to the run, scoring 10 of the 28 points including three of his four three-point baskets.
Over the final 10 minutes of the half, DePauw outscored the Terriers 16-14, but Hiram maintained the lead with a 45-37 advantage at the break.
The Terrier advantage would grow to as many as 18 (65-47) on a three-point play by Kirksey in the early stages of the second half.
The Tigers would get as close as 11, but would never get closer than double digits, and the Terriers walked away with their third conference win.
Hiram will have a quick turn around on their road tour taking on Wabash on Friday, Dec. 21. The matchup is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
