HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College men's lacrosse team was defeated by the University of Mount Union in a non-conference game in Alliance.
Hiram (1-2) scored back-to-back goals to begin the first quarter, both unassisted scores from All-North Coast Athletic Conferenc sophomore Greg Summers (Lancaster, N.Y./St. Mary's) at the 12:14 and 9:19 minute marks to give the Terriers an early 2-0 lead. Mount Union (4-3) ended the scoring in the period with two goals of its own to even the game at 2-2 after the first 15 minutes.
The Purple Raiders moved ahead with a goal at the 10:38 mark before sophomore John Deegan (Lakewood/St. Edward) tied the game again with an unassisted goal making the score 3-3 with 9:55 to go in the half. The Deegan goal would be all the scoring Hiram could muster the rest of the way as Mount Union tallied three goals before the end of the half to take a 6-3 advantage at the break.
Hiram took a combined six shots in the second half, but not could find the back of the net as the Purple Raiders went on to add five goals in the third quarter and five more scores in the fourth to go on to the 16-3 final.
In net for Hiram, sophomore Sawyer Lott (Sunbury/Big Walnut) played all 60 minutes and recorded seven saves in 23 shots faced.
Hiram is scheduled to host DePauw (Ind.) University on Saturday, Mar. 22 in the NCAC opener at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
