Aug. 30 – HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College men's soccer team was selected eighth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced the NCAC on Tuesday.
The Terriers, coming off back-to-back six win seasons, are looking to replace eight starters from a season ago. However, Hiram does return two of their top three goal scorers in senior Keanu Shelton and sophomore Austin Blatt, as well as 10 seniors to the pitch.
There Terriers tied with the College of Wooster for eighth place, earning 28 points in the preseason poll. The Lords of Kenyon College, who appeared in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals for the second-straight season, were tabbed as the preseason favorites, garnering 98 points and eight first place votes.
The Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan were selected second with 81 total points and one first-place vote. Oberlin and Wabash tied for third with 72 points, apiece, with DePauw rounding out the top five.
Following Denison in sixth (51 points) and Allegheny in seventh (34 points), the Terriers and Scots each earned 28 points, 13 ahead of 10th-place Wittenberg.
Hiram, seeking their first NCAC tournament berth since 2012, will open their 2017 season on Friday, September 1, as they host the Brittons of Albion College. The game is set for a 4 p.m. start.
