Oct. 15 – GAMBIER, Ohio – The Hiram College swimming and diving teams opened the 2016-17 season by competing in the Kenyon College relays on Saturday afternoon. Both teams tallied eighth-place finished with the women posting 12 points and the men, 10.
The women's team competed in five separate events on the day. The four athletes that competed for the women included Meredith Fitschen-Brown, Jenna Nelson, Sierra Daniels and Emily Kelly.
The team earned four points in the 200 backstroke medley, posting a time of 2:15.62. Fitschen-Brown turned in the best split in the race, finishing the anchor leg with a time of 31.74.
The quartet also competed in the 200 medley relay, the 200 butterfly relay and the 400 individual medley relay, earning two points in each race.
A total of five swimmers competed on the men's side, capturing two points in each event. The group of Colson Faust, Jory Gomes, Michael Barber and Reeve Bowling finished the 200 breaststroke relay with a 17th-place mark (2:12.99).
The group of Faust, Gomes, Barber and Bowling also earned a pair of points in the 400 individual medley relay (4:33.41). Bowling, Gomes and Barber then joined Alex Laird to compete in both the 500 crescendo relay (5:13.38) and the 200 freestyle (1:43.81).
The Terriers will be back in action on Saturday, October 22, when they host a dual meet with the University of Mount Union. The meet in the Alumni Memorial Pool is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
