Men’s Swimming Prevails Over Bethany / Women Fall Short

Dec. 3 - HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College swim teams competed in their final home meet of the 2016 calendar year, taking on the Bethany Bison on Saturday afternoon. The Terrier men captured their first dual of the season, earning a 90-64 victory, while the women dropped their meet by a final of 63-48.

The Terrier men captured first place in eight different events, led by two wins, apiece for Alex Laird, Michael Barber and Reeve Bowling.

Laird won his two freestyle events, taking first-place points in both the 50 (28.82) and 100 (1:05.05) free. Barber, meanwhile captured wins in the distance swims, taking first in the 400 freestyle with a time of 5:07.72, before winning the 800 free (10:27.32).

Bowling took a victory in two separate events, winning both the 100 butterfly (1:07.69) and the 100 breaststroke (1:17.44).

The Terriers picked up wins in two more events, as Jory Gomes captured a victory in the 200 individual medley with a 2:40.26. Additionally, the 200-freestyle relay team of Laird, Gomes, Barber and Paul Muehleisen captured 11 points with a time of 2:07.94.

The women were led by senior Jenna Nelson who captured three-separate victories on the day. Nelson earned top points in the 100 breaststroke (1:27.05) and the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:46.37. In addition, she broke a season-best time in the 400 freestyle, posting a mark of 5:11.12.

The Terrier swim teams will not be in action again until January 21, as the teams host a tri-meet with Washington & Jefferson and Franciscan University. The meet, which will also serve as senior day, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
