WOOSTER, Ohio – The Hiram College softball team opened their 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference season, dropping a pair of games to DePauw University on Saturday afternoon.
Due to field conditions, the Terriers took on the Tigers on neutral turf, at The College of Wooster. The defending NCAC champion Tigers handed the Terriers a 12-1 loss in game one and an 11-0 defeat in the second game.
Game one ended in five innings as the Tigers, who are now 4-0 in conference play, posted 11 runs in the opening two innings, including seven in the second frame.
DePauw would add another run in the fifth before Hiram collected their lone run of the day. Freshman Tory McCutcheon came through with a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the fifth inning before moving from first to third on a single by Kaitlyn Hager. McCutcheon then scored on a wild pitch.
Game two was a near mirror image of the first with DePauw tallying five runs through the first two innings of play. The Tigers added one in the fourth before tacking on five more in the seventh.
The Terrier offense, meanwhile, posted a trio of hits in the game, including a pair by Hager. The multi-hit game marked her 11th of the season.
