April 25-OBERLIN, Ohio- In their final away doubleheader of the regular season, the Hiram College softball team fell in a pair of games against the Oberlin Yeowomen on Wednesday afternoon. Hiram fell 11-3 in game one, before dropping game two, 8-4.
In the first game, freshman Kaitlyn Hager put together a quick run to set the Terriers ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
The Hiram action didn't stop there as sophomore Alexus Acton opened up the second inning with a homer to left field. The home run was the first of Acton's career and helped the Terriers stretch the lead to 2-0 in the top of the second.
Oberlin responded with six runs over the next three innings to take a 7-2 lead.
In the sixth inning, the Terriers put a run on the board with Nikki Budner advancing on a throw to bring the score to 7-3.
In the bottom of the inning, Oberlin cut the game short tacking on four more runs to secure an 11-3 victory.
Hager also spent 4 innings on the mound tallying two of the four strikeouts.
In game two, Oberlin held a 7-0 advantage in the first five innings.
The Terriers picked up steam in the top of the sixth inning tallying two of their four runs. Sophomore Bebe Grein singled through the right side to score Budner and Mariah Sheffield (7-2).
The Terriers kept the scoring momentum going in the top of the seventh with Sheffield singling to center field to bring home Hager and freshman Bailey Scheck. The late-inning scoring was not enough to hold off the Yeowomen who won the last game 8-4.
The next time you can catch the Terriers will be April, 28 as they take on Wittenberg at home in a conference doubleheader. The first game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
