Hager Named Pre-Season All-American by FPN

Following one of the best freshmen campaigns in Hiram College softball history, Terrier sophomore Kaitlyn Hager has been named a Preseason All-American Honorable Mention selection by Fastpitch News, announced FPN on Wednesday.

During her first season as a Terrier, Hager was named an NFCA All-Central Region honoree, as well as earning All-NCAC honors. Her .469 batting average not only ranked first in the NCAC in 2018, but was also the second-best average in Hiram Terrier history in just her first year on campus.

Last season, KT led the NCAC in average and also on-base percentage (.558) and slugging percentage (.742). She finished the year with 45, including a team-best 16 extra bases.

Along with those numbers, Hager tallied 14 RBIs and led the Terriers in both walks (17) and stolen bases (12).

The first-year utility player had a blistering start to her career, hitting safely in 23-consecutive games to open the season. During that stretch, she tallied 12 multi-hit performances.

She finished the season with 16 multi-hit games, including a season-best three-hit performance in a 4-2 decision against Bethany Lutheran.

Hager becomes the first Terrier in school history to earn a Pre-Season All-American award, and is just the second to be recognized nationally since Whitney Dropsey earned All-American status in 2010. Hager was one of just 45 players from all-around the Division III landscape to be named, and the only player from the North Coast Athletic Conference.

Hager and the Terriers will open the 2019 season on March 3 against Whittier College.
