Softball Split Doubleheader at Bethany  
Mar.31- BETHANY, W.Va.- The Hiram College softball team fell 3-2 in game one before claiming a 10-7 victory in game two over Bethany College, Sunday afternoon. 
In the first game of the doubleheader, freshman Isabelle Gonzales scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning.  
After a runless fourth inning for both sides, the Bison tied up the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.  
Neither side was able to add to the board in the remaining two frames sending the game into an extra inning.  
In the top of the eighth freshman Kaitlyn Saffel would add one last Terrier run to pull ahead 2-1.  
Bethany would add two runs in the bottom of the eighth to end the game with the 3-2 win.  
On the mound, sophomore Bailey Scheck pitched 7.2 innings tallying four strikeouts.  
The second game was much like the first with Hiram scoring first with a run from sophomore Mariah Sheffield.  
The Bison would take the lead in the bottom of the second with a three-run inning (3-1).  
Hiram made their move in the top of the third inning tallying seven runs to hold an 8-3 advantage. Freshman trio Giselle Chavez, Leah Valdez, and Megan Davis kicked off the scoring effort. Next,
senior Chase Martinez doubled to score Sheffield and sophomore Giselle Bahena, before junior Alexus Acton and Martinez finished off the inning.  
In the top of the fourth Bahena tallied her second run of the game to stretch the Hiram lead to 9-3.  
The Bison would respond in the next two innings to cut the Hiram lead to two (9-7).  
Hiram finished the game with a run from Acton to secure the 10-7 win.  
In the circle, Martinez pitched her first complete game victory of the season tallying two strikeouts.  
Three Hiram players finished with a multi-run game including two runs apiece from Bahena, Sheffield, and Acton.  
The Terriers will return to work on Wednesday, April 3, as they host Denison. The doubleheader matchup is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. start.
