HIRAM, OHIO -- Freshman Mercedes Jones (Dayton/Ponitz Career Technology Center) led four players in double figures, but the Hiram College women's basketball team fell to Ohio Wesleyan 81-65 on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers see their record drop to 4-12 on the season and 0-7 on NCAC play, while the Battling Bishops improve to 9-6, 5-1.
Jones finished with 16 points and six rebounds off the bench for Hiram.
Senior Taylor Ratliff (Berea/Columbia) recorded her second straight double figure scoring output with 15 points.
OWU scored the first five points of the contest before Yost (Norwalk/Perkins) found Koskinen for a layup to get Hiram on the board.
The Battling Bishops would use a 16-4 run to push their lead to 21-6 with 13:23 left in the first half.
Jones made a jumper to cut the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 23-12, but the Battling Bishops would slowly pull away and take a 48-27 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Terriers would chip away at the lead and a layup by Jones brought them to within 58-44 with just under 13 minutes to play.
But Hiram would be unable to get any closer the rest of the way and Ohio Wesleyan pushed its lead out to as many as 19 points.
The Terriers finished the contest 26-of-72 (36.1 percent) from the field, while the Battling Bishops were 29-of-57 (50.9 percent). OWU also connected on 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) 3-pointers.
OWU won the rebounding battle 44-37.
Hiram forced 23 turnovers which led to 15 points, while Ohio Wesleyan forced 18 turnovers and scored 29 points off of them.
Hiram will return to action on January 21, when it travels to take on Denison at 6 p.m.
