Jan.16-GAMBIER, Ohio- The Hiram women's basketball team suffered a 56-52 defeat at the hands of Kenyon College on Wednesday evening.
The Ladies controlled the scoring momentum of the first half kicking off the initial minutes of the game with a 4-0 run.
The host stretched their lead to as much as seven before a Josie Earnhardt basket cut the Kenyon lead to one (12-11) with 2:03 remaining in the first.
The Terriers and Ladies traded baskets at the beginning of the second quarter before Hiram took the lead for the first time off a three from freshman Cici Bright (22-20).
Inside the remaining three minutes of the second, Bright knocked down two shots from the charity stripe to stretch the Hiram lead to 24-20.
Kenyon made a comeback using an 8-5 run to grab a one-point lead before the halftime break (29-28).
The Terriers lost their offensive rhythm in the third quarter, scoring just nine of their 24 second-half points.
The Ladies however maximized in the third tallying their largest lead of the game pushing their advantage to nine (41-32).
Hiram would respond in the fourth quarter, cutting the Kenyon lead to two (54-52) off a three from Wright with eight seconds remaining in the game.
Despite the Terriers outscoring the host 15-14 in the fourth quarter their comeback bid fell short, the host would convert on a pair of free-throw opportunities to secure the 56-52 victory.
Offensively, Wright led the way with 24 points and six rebounds. For the first time this season, Bright scored in double figures tallying a career-high 14 points. Sophomore Alainna Conroy totaled six points, while Madison Branch and Earnhardt each added four.
The Terriers will hit the road again Saturday, January 19 when they take on Wooster College. The matchup with the Fighting Scots is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
