MEADVILLE, Pa. - November 15, 2019 – Hiram Terriers women's basketball fell to the Grove City College Wolverines, 80-72, on Friday at the David V. Wise Center in their opening game of the Greg Richards Memorial Classic.
After a back-and-forth start, Hiram took a 13-12 lead on Madison Branch's layup with just over three minutes to play in the first. Two free throws and a layup gave the Wolverines the lead right back, but Haley Thompson's layup cut it to just one, 16-15, with 1:48 to play in the first.
However, Grove City would hold the Terriers scoreless over the next six minutes, taking a 26-15 lead midway through the second quarter and an 11-point lead into the halftime break.
Grove City would further extend their lead in the second half, opening the third quarter on a 13-6 run to extend their lead to 16, eventually taking a 23-point lead into the fourth.
And though the Terriers outscored the Wolverines, 28-13 in the fourth quarter, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from three, the early deficit proved to be too much to overcome, and Hiram fell, 80-72.
With the loss, Hiram drops to 1-2 on the year, while Grove City moves to 2-0.
Alainna Conroy led the Terriers with 20 points, notching her second-consecutive 20-point performance. Conroy scored 12 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter, shooting a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
TT Wright added 19 points and nine rebounds, while Branch tallied 11 points and three boards.
The Terriers will look to bounce back on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they wrap up their weekend at the Greg Richards Memorial Classic against Goucher College at 11:00 a.m. at the David V. Wise Center.
