MEADVILLE, Pa. - November 16, 2019- The Hiram College women's basketball team found themselves on the wrong end of a 78-69 decision against Goucher on Saturday evening on the second day of the Greg Richards Memorial Classic.
Junior Tashauna Wright led the Hiram offense with her first double-double this season posting 21 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists.
Other offensive leaders for Hiram included Madison Branch and Alainna Conroy. Branch added 19 points with six rebounds and four steals. While Conroy contributed 16 points, seven rebounds, and five steals.
The Terriers found themselves knotted at 10-10 in the first, thanks in part to free throws from Conroy and back-to-back three-pointers, and a pair of free throws from Wright.
Wright would score one last free throw for Hiram before the Gophers would close out the first quarter with a 10-1 run (20-11).
The Terriers would fare better in the second quarter outscoring Goucher 21-18, cutting their lead down to six (38-32).
Wright and Branch shined in the second frame combining for 16 of the 21 team points.
Fresh out the break, the Hiram defense would keep the Gophers to a game low 14 points.
The remaining minutes would bring two ties before a three from Gabriella Dukarm cut the lead to one (52-51) with nine seconds remaining.
The Terriers would take the lead from the charity stripe with freshman Haley Thompson knocking down a pair of free throws (53-52).
Hiram would never regain the lead with the Gophers sealing their victory with a 26-16 run (78-69).
Hiram will host Thiel on Tuesday, Nov.19 for their home opener. The matchup with the Tomcats is set for a 7:00 pm start.
