FRANKLIN, MICH. -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team fell by a 14-5 score to Olivet (Mich.) in its season opener on Friday evening at Detroit Country Day School.
The Terriers are now 0-1 on the season, while the Comets are 1-1.
Olivet came out and grabbed control of the game early, scoring four times in the first eight minutes to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
The Terriers would get on the board when junior JoLyn Grover (Flint, Mich./Grand Blanc) converted on a free position shot with 20:02 left in the first half.
Olivet would respond with three more goals, to open up a 7-1 lead with just over six minutes left in the first half.
But Hiram would reel off three consecutive goals to get within 7-4 at the break.
First, junior Rebecca Goetz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) found the back of the net with 3:33 remaining in the half.
Sophomore Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, Vt./Lamoille Union) would score the final two goals of the half, including one with six seconds left.
In the second half, Olivet score four unanswered goals to expand its lead to 11-4.
Osgood would add another goal, her third of the contest, with just over eight minutes remaining in the game.
But the Comets would score three more times to put the game out of reach.
Freshman goalkeeper Rachel Metcalf (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) made nine saves in her first career contest.
The Comets outshot Hiram 28-12 and held a 16-5 edge in draw controls.
Hiram will continue its four-game road swing on Sunday at Hanover (Ind.). The game it set to begin at noon.
