HANOVER, Ind. -- The Hiram College women's lacrosse teamed picked up a 10-6 road victory over Hanover (Ind.) on Sunday afternoon.
The win was the first of the season for the Terriers and bumps their record to 1-1. The Panthers drop to 0-3.
Junior Rebecca Goetz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier) and junior JoLyn Grover (Flint, Mich./Grand Blanc) eached had a hat trick to lead Hiram. Sophomore Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, Vt./Lamoille Union) added two scores.
Hanover got on the board first, scoring just over one minute into the game.
But Hiram would get goals from freshman Sierah Ray (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Osgood to jump in front 2-1.
The Panthers would tie the game at 2-2, before Grover scored two consecutive goals to put the Terriers up 4-2 with 10:16 left in the first half.
Hanover would respond with a goal to cut Hiram's lead to 4-3, but sophomore Kayla Jenkins (Solon) found the back of the net to push the Terriers lead back to 5-3. The goal was the first of the season for Jenkins.
The Panthers would answer right back with a goal of their own. Goetz then scored with 1:12 remaining in the first half to give Hiram a 6-4 lead at the intermission.
Hanover struck first in the second half to trim the Terriers lead to 6-5.
Grover would score an unassisted goal at the 19:40 mark and Osgood added a man-up goal with just over 12 minutes to go to expand Hiram's lead to 8-5.
The Panthers would get a goal with 11:29 left, but Goetz added two more goals to put the game away and give the Terriers the win.
Freshman Rachel Metcalf (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) picked up her first career win in goal by making seven saves.
The Panthers held a 20-17 edge in shots, but Hiram converted 3-of-4 free position shots, while Hanover was 0-for-3.
Hiram will play again on Tuesday, when it travels to take on Rhodes (Tenn.) in a contest that is set to begin at noon.
