Women's Lacrosse Stumbles Against Thiel  

Mar.6-GREENVILLE, Pa.- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team fell to Thiel, 17-13, on Wednesday afternoon.   

The Tomcats kicked off the scoring, but the Terriers controlled the opening offensive momentum taking an early 3-1 lead in the first five minutes.   

Junior Alexis Hirsch led the scoring attack with back-to-back goals, while lone senior Katelyn Slomovitz added her first goal of the game.   

Thiel responded with a six-goal run to take the lead 7-3. The scoring run was led by four goals from Thiel's Mackenzie Quinn.   

Inside the fifteen-minute mark, four consecutive Terrier goals knotted the score at 7-7. The scoring included junior Christina Belleza, sophomore Gianna Palmieri, Hirsch, and sophomore Kelsey Morgan 

The Tomcats kept the pressure going adding two more goals to pull Thiel ahead 9-7.   

Hirsch added one more Hiram goal, tallying a season-high four goals in the first half (9-8).   

Thiel scored the last goal before the halftime break to take a 10-8 lead.   

Despite the Tomcats outshooting Hiram 28-14 the Terriers trailed by just two after the first 30 minutes and tallied 10 groundballs and added four caused turnovers.   

Out the break, Slomovitz and Hirsch knotted the score at 10-10, and then again at 11-11 off a Belleza goal from Tia Smith 

The Tomcats used a trio of scoring to pull ahead 14-11 with 12:37 in the second half.  

From there Hiram would add just two more goals, one from Palmieri (14-12) and the last from Belleza (16-13).  

Thiel tallied one last goal to cement their 17-13 victory.  

Offensively, four Terriers recorded a multi-goal performance. Hirsch paced Hiram with five goals and a groundball. Belleza registered her first career hat trick, while Palmieri and Slomovitz tallied two goals apiece.  

In goal, Gillian McMaster had a career high game finishing the afternoon with 18 saves in her 60 minutes of work.  

The Terriers will get back to work on Tuesday, March 12, as they take on Heidelberg on the road. The matchup with the Berg is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
