HIRAM, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's soccer team was defeated by Allegheny (Pa.) College, 2-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
Allegheny (6-7-1, 1-3 NCAC) outshot Hiram, 14-2, for the game and struck early scoring the game's first goal at the 9:49 minute mark off the foot of Ashley Lehr to give the Gators an early 1-0 lead. The lone goal was all of the scoring in the first 45 minutes as Allegheny took a 1-0 edge into halftime.
In the second half, Allegheny added to its lead during the 63rd minute with a goal from Hannah Zangara making the score 2-0. Hiram (4-7-2, 1-3 NCAC) tallied both of its shots in the second period, but could not get either shot past the Gator netminder as Allegheny went on to claim the 2-0 shutout victory.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) started the game in net for Hiram and played the entire first half allowing one goal and had four saves. She was credited with the loss and is now 2-4-2 overall for the season. Freshman Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) came on to play the second half and gave up one goal and tallied no saves.
Hiram will travel to Oberlin for a NCAC game against Oberlin College on Saturday, Oct. 13. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
