WOOSTER, OHIO -- The Hiram College women's soccer team was shut out by The College of Wooster, 4-0, in North Coast Athletic Conference action in Wooster.
Wooster (10-4-1, 5-0 NCAC) outshot the Terriers, 13-1, in the first period, but neither team would score any goals as the game remained scoreless at the intermission.
The Fighting Scots kept up the offensive attack in the final 45 minutes and finally got on the board with a goal at the 53:43 minute mark from Lauren Hancher, making the score 1-0. Wooster added to its lead shortly after with a goal by Paige Piper during the 60th minute to give the Scots a 2-0 edge. Wooster went on to add two more goals in the half at the 62:41 and 75:56 marks en route to the 4-0 victory.
In net for Hiram (4-9-2, 1-5 NCAC), senior goalkeeper Kate Valaitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) started the game played the first 45 minutes allowing no goals and had five saves. Freshman Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) came on to play in the second half giving up four goals and had one save. She was also credited with the loss and is now 2-4 overall for the season.
Hiram will look to end its four-game losing streak when the Terriers host Denison University on Saturday, Oct. 20. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
