HIRAM, OHIO -- Junior Lindsay Brewer (Barberton/Manchester) had a match-high 22 kills as the Hiram College volleyball team posted a 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 victory over NCAC foe Allegheny (Pa.) on Wednesday evening.
The Terriers improve to 16-3 overall and remain perfect in NCAC play at 4-0. The Gators drop to 14-8, 1-3.
Brewer recorded her 22 kills on just 33 attempts and commited just four errors, finishing with a .545 hitting mark.
Allegheny was led by Bailey Gawley who had 15 kills and Justine Kelly who had 23 assists.
The score was tied 10-10 in the opening set, before the Terriers went on an 8-2 en route to a 25-17 victory. Brewer and Scruggs had two kills during the run and Jay added one.
The Gators would open up an early 8-5 lead in the second set, but the Terriers came back with a 6-2 run to jump in front 11-10.
The teams would trade leads in the second and a kill by Jay would cap off a 4-1 run to give Hiram the set, 25-22.
Allegheny came out strong in the third set as well and built an early 10-5 lead. But the Terriers responded with an 11-1 run to take control. Brewer had five kills during the run for Hiram.
The Terriers recorded 53 kills and hit .381 in the match, while Allegheny had 30 kills and hit .157.
Hiram will return to action on Saturday when it takes part in the Hilbert (N.Y.) tri-match. The Terriers will take on Rochester (N.Y.) at 1 p.m. and host Hilbert at 3 p.m.
