Volleyball wraps up regular season with wins over Geneseo State (N.Y.) and St. John Fisher (N.Y.)

GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Hiram College volleyball team closed out the regular season with wins over Geneseo State (N.Y.) and St. John Fisher (N.Y.) on Saturday.

The Terriers are now 22-6 on the season.

Against St. John Fisher (11-21), the Terriers won in straight sets 25-15, 25-10, 25-9.

Sophomore Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) paced Hiram with 10 kills and senior Jennifer Yardas (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) had eight kills with zero errors on 16 attempts.

Senior Tierra Moore (Canton/Canton South) dished out a match-high 26 assists.

Defensively, senior Regina Zyle (Cleveland/Beaumont) and sophomore Megan Schaefer (Elyria) each had 12 digs with Yardas adding 11.

Against Geneseo State (18-9), junior Lindsay Brewer (New Franklin/Manchester) led the Terriers in their 25-16, 18-25, 25-13, 25-12 victory.

Scruggs added 10 kills and junior Katie Barton (Newbury) finished with seven.

Moore finished with a match-high 38 assists and Zyle had 17 digs.

Hiram jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the first set and never trailed on its way to the 25-16 victory.

A 8-2 run midway through the second set put the Knights in control as they would win the set 25-18.

In the third set, the Terriers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead on a kill by Brewer. Two kills by Barton and an attack error gave Set 3 to Hiram 25-13.

Hiram built a 11-8 lead in the fourth set and finished the set on a 14-4 run to clinch the match.

Hiram is the No. 3 seed in the NCAC Tournament and will take on No. 6-seed Allegheny (Pa.) on Friday in the quarterfinals at Wittenberg at 4 p.m.
