GREENVILLE, Pa. - September 11, 2019 – Hiram Terriers women's volleyball swept the Thiel College Tomcats, 3-0, on Wednesday at Beeghly Gymnasium to pick up their sixth-straight victory.
Natalie Zucco scored the first points of the match for the Tomcats, who jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. But the Terriers fought their way back, using a 6-0 down 8-5 to take an 11-8 lead. Thiel kept Hiram at an arm's length for much of the first set, but Kayla Cole finished off finished off the first set with a pair of kills to give Hiram a 25-18 victory.
The Terriers opened the second set with a big run of their own, scoring six of the first eight points to take a 6-2 lead. The Tomcats closed the gap to three, before another 6-2 run gave Hiram a 14-7 lead.
The two sides traded 4-0 runs, before the Tomcats closed the gap to just two, 21-19, with an 8-3 run of their own. Kiara Franks slowed Thiel's run with a kill, and the Terriers and Tomcats traded serves before Hiram scored the final two points of the set to earn a 25-21 victory.
Hiram again opened the third set with a run, taking a 12-3 with victory in sight. The Tomcats cut the lead down to four, but the Terriers scored seven-straight to take a ten-point lead, eventually finishing off the 3-0 victory on a kill from Kayla Cole.
The Terriers will be back in action, looking for their seventh-straight win when they travel to Wooster, Ohio for the Ginny Hunt Kilt Classic on Friday, Sept. 13. Hiram will take on Baldwin Wallace at 3:30 p.m., before a matchup with the host Fighting Scots at 7:30 p.m.
